At our school, the curriculum is designed to meet the diverse and complex needs of all learners through a graduated pathway model, ensuring every child can engage, progress and thrive.
Our four learning GEMS pathways: Topaz, Amethyst, Sapphire and Emerald provide a continuum of provision that reflects children’s developmental stages, strengths, and individual needs. Each pathway offers a carefully tailored approach while maintaining a shared commitment to inclusion, engagement, high expectations and preparation for adulthood.
Topaz – Doing
A highly personalised, sensory-based curriculum focused on engagement, exploration, and early communication. Learning is rooted in play, co-regulation, and experiential approaches, building the foundations for learning.
Amethyst – Doing and Responding
A highly adapted curriculum introducing early subject specific learning opportunities, where children begin to apply skills across contexts through repetition, functional experiences, and supported independence.
Sapphire – Doing, Responding and Interpreting
A structured, subject-specific curriculum where children develop, consolidate, and apply National Curriculum skills alongside building independence, communication, and life skills in meaningful contexts.
Emerald – Doing and Exploring
Emerald Pathway (EYFS) provides a nurturing, personalised Early Years environment where children develop communication, independence and social skills through play-based, multi-sensory learning.
Across all pathways:
-
Learning is personalised, inclusive, and responsive
-
Children’s individual EHCP targets are at the heart of all learning
-
Enrichment opportunities and experiences that develop life skills and prepare our children for adulthood are provided throughout the school day
-
Communication, emotional wellbeing, and relationships are prioritised
-
Children are supported to develop independence, resilience, and confidence
-
Progress is recognised through both engagement and achievement
Our GEMS pathway approach ensures that every child accesses a curriculum that meets them where they are, builds on their strengths, and supports them to make meaningful progress towards their next stage in education and life.
